- Through-thickness fibre ties the layers together: cracks do not run from bolt holes, and wear under repeated loads is lower than in a 2D laminate.
- 30% higher strength along the OWC direction (500 mm edge) than 2D laminates: the same strength from a thinner, lighter part.
- Made by vacuum-assisted resin transfer moulding (VARTM); glass transition temperature (Tg) 140 °C.

## Machining guide

1. Use a diamond-coated (PCD) or carbide composite router bit.
2. Drill with a sharp carbide bit, a low feed rate and a backing board on the exit side.
3. Because the layers do not separate, edges stay clean on CNC routers and waterjets.
4. Use dust extraction and an FFP2 mask for carbon dust.
5. Align load-bearing parts with the 500 mm axis when nesting.
